Microscope Camera @ HKU comparison
At Hku BioLab has a proper microscope camera to use in that space. In the Blackbox we recently got one the students can also borrow.
Master student Franscisco did a comparison:
I had the opportunity to compare the microscopic camera present at Janeskerkhof and the one at IBB, Being the TechnaXX TX-158 and the Dino-Lite MTZ ( which exact model I'm not sure but I'm certain that the people at Bio-Lab IBB can answer that detail)
Important information before the comparison
TechnaXX TX 158 is around 55 euros
the Dino-Lite is around 600 -1000 euros if not more
What I wrote down in my notes was the following
Dino lite has no power button
Techna XX sometimes has visual lines in pictures/videos unplugging and plugging in usually works but sometimes it comes back? I suspect its from the fragility of the cable that it has.
Dino has much better colour fidelity, slightly better focus and more options in resolutions but these higher ones are only 8-2 hz, for the 30 Hz setting its actually at lower resolution at only 480p compared to the 720p of the TechnaXX, although with the better focus it is actually much clearer
these higher quality settings in the dino lite are really had to focus correctly better use the 30 Hz setting and then change the resolution after focusing
light changes helps.
the fact that Dinolite is round instead of squared shaped like the TechnaXX its a bit harder to know if you need to film "straight"
Dinolite is certainly worst at a distance
Focus on dino lite has a smoothing
The lights of the TechnaXX are 6 LEDs and if what is being observed a reflective surface like glass, you can clearly see the individual lights reflected back on the video, did not teste this on the Dino Lite but It is easy to assume that this won't happen at least as severely with it as the light seems more like a strip of light and not individual light sources.
TechnaXX can be wireless but not testes yet.
I really think the TechnaXX can be compared with the Dino-Lite even though its price range is completely different.
I leave you with some pictures and videos of these two so that you can also get some conclusions:
